Medication Management
Medications play a crucial role in managing mental health conditions. While they are not a cure-all, they can significantly help people function better at home, work or school, and in their relationships. At Truyu Health & Wellbeing, it is understood that psychopharmacology is not just a science but also an art.
Everybody’s body is unique. How your body responds to a particular medication may be entirely different than another person’s experience. That’s why our psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners are dedicated to carefully prescribing and regularly monitoring medications. They take into account each person's specific needs and responses to ensure that the treatment plan is tailored to their individual situation.
They also prioritize patient education. Their goal is to ensure that patients have well-researched and accurate information so they are better equipped to make decisions about their health. They provide clear and comprehensive information about medications, possible side effects, and other treatment options to support patients in making well-informed choices that align with their overall health goals.
What to expect
It all starts with a thorough diagnostic evaluation conducted during your initial 60 - 90 minute meeting. All initial appointments are done in-person at our office in Wayzata, MN.
During this comprehensive session, our nurse practitioners take the time to gather information about your medical background, social history, and carefully review any pertinent records from other healthcare providers. You can expect thoughtful counseling about your diagnosis, personalized treatment recommendations, and an opportunity to have all your questions addressed.
Depending on your individual needs, your nurse practitioner may recommend further diagnostic assessments; order labs, including pharmacogentic testing; or provide referrals for more specialized care to ensure you receive the most holistic and effective treatment possible.
After your first appointment, follow-up sessions are scheduled to closely monitor your progress. These appointments can be done either in-person or via Telehealth. The frequency of these follow-ups is based upon your current needs. If symptoms are acute or changes are made to your therapy, you will be seen every 2 - 4 weeks. Otherwise, appointments are typically scheduled every 3-4 months for stable conditions. If controlled substances are prescribed, follow-ups are set at a minimum of every 3 months to ensure safe and effective management of your medication.
Our nurse practitioners believe in collaborative care and each follow-up session is an opportunity to adjust medications, address any concerns, and support you on your path to wellness. Your well-being is at the heart of everything we do at Truyu Health & Wellbeing.
